Where Advocacy Began
In the spring of 2014, our son Blake was born with Down syndrome. He was the first person we had ever met with DS — and overnight, our world changed.
We had so much to learn.
But what we didn’t expect was how much educating we would need to do — for medical providers, specialists, educators, friends, even family. I quickly realized that if my son was going to thrive, I would need to become his voice.
That fall, our 5-year-old son Ryan was diagnosed with a rare bone condition. Once again, we stepped into a world of research, appointments, hard conversations, and advocacy.
By 2018, Blake experienced a major regression and was diagnosed with autism. Advocacy wasn’t optional — it was essential.
Fighting for services.
Navigating complex systems.
Ensuring they were seen, understood, and supported.
Advocating for my children became a full-time job.
And it shaped everything about who I am.
